Our First Ministry Day

Well, Saturday was our first field service day. It was pretty active. First we caught the bus to the kingdom and almost missed the group by like 30 seconds. Bro Palacios put the girls in the group with him and his wife. And I went with Mark Alvarado, his wife, Hector Serrano and Virginia (a sister visiting from Germany). But when we get to the territory, the girls and I are reunited. Then Bro Palacios says, 'You three go that way. And me and my wife will go this way.' I was like 'he's sending us by ourselves!' That's exactly what he did. So off we went. I was trying my best to remember the script in Spanish to say we're looking for English speakers that I learned last year. Prayed to Jehovah and rang the first bell. And then the second and then the third and so on. And before you know it, it felt just like service in Houston. With the spirit's help and Kayla and India giving me pointers, my presentation improved. The first person that I was able to witness to was a man in a truck delivering raw chickens to a tienda. I mean he literally had about 30-40 raw, naked chickens sitting in buckets in the back of his truck! I asked him in Spanish if he spoke English and he said he did. So off I went into my presentation using the Would You Like to Know the Truth tract and he accepted it. Of course I told him that I'd put it on the seat of his truck because he had chicken juice all over his hands! The rest of time in service was spent searching for English speakers and avoiding S.D.W.A.'s (stray dogs with attitudes).

But we had a very enjoyable time. We covered about eight blocks! After that, we walked to a sister's house to change as we were going to a gathering right after service. That will be covered in my next post. Adios!

A Little Relieved

I'm more at ease now. My dad is doing better. I was able to Skype with him and my sister Dwynesha. And he told me that we better not touch his Candy Crush! Plus we went to our first meeting with the Cuenca English Congregation and were welcomed with open arms and hearts. During the service meeting they covered the part about what they accomplished in March. Here's a summary:

46 total publishers (18 regular pioneers 11 auxiliary pioneers)
44 bible studies
over 1300 hours
over 300 magazines

I must admit I felt a bit embarrassed. But I also felt motivated. Cuenca English is NOT playing around. So I better step it up!

Goodnight Fam,

Let's all keep one another in our prayers!

Surprise, Surprise!

When we visited my dad the weekend before we left, I made an amazing discovery. I walked in the living room Saturday evening to find my dad sitting in his favorite chair playing Candy Crush Saga (a popular, highly addictive game mostly played on Facebook) on his phone! I was elated but my girls were like "Paw-paw not you too?" Then ensued a whole conversation about candies, levels, striped and wrapped and chocolate bombs! It was awesome! He was so proud to be on level 29! So Dee Lavigne when you get to Dallas tell him he better get better or Cynthia will reinstall his app and make him start all over from level one! And so the addiction continues. All of my CCS friends know what's up!

Oh Ecuador!

Ecuador will take some getting used to. Woke up this morning to have myself a nice warm cup of hot chocolate. And here in Ecuador when they say chocolate they actually mean cocoa...strong, dark, bittersweet cocoa. So here I was with a nice cup of liquid semi-sweet dark chocolate. Gotta figure out their definition of semi. I'll go with maybe...maybe not. Anyway, couldn't find any sugar in the house. So I just scraped the crème from between 4 golden oreos and crisis averted. They don't use high fructose corn syrup everything is made with real sugar...even the sodas.

Do you know what the girls and I call these in Ecuador?

Washcloths! I forgot that Constance Serrano Wonsey told me to make sure I bring my own washcloths from the States because they are almost nonexistent in Ecuador. Here they use hand towels to wash off with! Yes...those big ole hand towels! It must have been holy spirit urging me to stock up on socks at the Dollar Tree before we left. I bought like 12 pairs of socks (3 pairs for a $1 of course). So now we have an ample supply of "washcloths" or should I call them "loofah mittens"? I like the latter, it sounds so classy! And don't worry, a loving sister in our congregation gifted us with beaucoup new pairs of socks before we left. And I was wondering what we were going to do with soo many socks. The spirit is never wrong!

Not So Good News

Today is June 14th and I can't even think straight right now. Just found out that my dad is in the hospital in serious condition. Please keep him and my stepmom in your prayers.

Finally Cuenca!

Finally made it to Cuenca today. Got the keys to our apt. Already unpacked. Went to grocery store. Now for some relaxation. But first check out our new place.
